The Beauty of the Plateau: Why I’m Putting Down the Sword
We live in a culture that worships the "straight line." We are taught that if we put in the work, we should see the results—immediately. If you exercise, you should lose weight. If you post quality content, your engagement should climb.
But what happens when the needle stops moving?
Lately, I’ve been feeling exactly that. In both my personal health journey and my growth with The Modern Sage, I’ve felt like I’m pushing against an invisible wall. I’ve been doing the work—the diet adjustments, the medication management, the strategic content creation—and yet, the results have been stagnant.
In the Tarot, this feels like the Five of Swords—a mental battlefield where the conflict is happening entirely within my own head.
The Illusion of "Winning"
When things aren't moving, our instinct is to fight harder. We sharpen our swords, we push the gas, and we look for someone or something to blame. I’ve been doing that, too. I’ve been beating myself up over the scale not budging, and I’ve been analyzing the algorithm as if it were a personal enemy.
But I’ve realized something: The fight is the drain. The "victory" of forcing a result is hollow if it costs you your peace, your self-compassion, and your joy. My current "stall"—both in my weight loss and my follower growth—isn't a sign that I’m failing. It’s a sign that I am in a season of recalibration.
Reframing the "Stall"
When the Wheel of Fortune spins, it goes up and it goes down. But the most important part of the Wheel is the center—the part that doesn't move, the part that remains still while the world spins around it.
I am choosing to move into that center.
For The Modern Sage, this means shifting my focus from "chasing" engagement to "sharing" truth. My worth, and your worth, is not defined by a number on a scale or a metric on a screen. My mission with this space has always been to share the raw, messy, beautiful truth of the spiritual path. If I only share the wins, I am failing the very community I want to build.
My Commitment to You
So, I am putting down the sword.
I am choosing to be fully human here. I am going to continue showing up—not as a guru who has it all figured out, but as a guide who is walking the same path as you, stumble and all.
If you are currently in a season of waiting—whether it’s waiting for your health goals, your career goals, or just a feeling of internal peace—know this: The plateau is not a dead end. It is a preparation. The ground is being laid for your next breakthrough, even if you can’t see it yet.
I want to hear from you. What is the "plateau" you are currently facing in your own life? How are you practicing grace for yourself while you wait for the next shift?
